Hanjung America, a subsidiary of South Korea-based Hanjung NCS, announced plans to establish its first U.S.-based manufacturing facility in Huntington, Indiana. The company said the factory will make Energy Storage Systems (ESS) and expects it to create more than 300 jobs.
Hanjung America will use the new sites to supply cooling systems and enhanced direct injection fire extinguishers for container type ESS. These products will support Stellantis and Samsung SDI’s StarPlus Energy EV battery production in Kokomo.
The company plans to break ground in April and expects to begin operating in June 2027. Hanjung America will hire more than 300 positions to start and said full employment could reach more than 440. The company added that it would evaluate additional opportunities for growth in Indiana.
“Huntington is proud to welcome a Hanjung America production facility,” Huntington Mayor Richard Strick said. “Hanjung’s technology makes energy storage safer and more effective, two critical requirements to lowering energy costs for consumers throughout the grid."
Hanjung America will become the latest supplier to support Stellantis’ and Samsung SDI’s two new StarPlus Energy gigafactories in Kokomo, joining soulbrain MI and Jaweon Industrial.
Founded in South Korea in 1995, Hanjung NCS specializes in the manufacture of components for HVAC systems, energy storage systems and electric vehicles within the automotive and energy storage industries.
