Hyundai Translead, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company, announced a planned $452.5 million expansion that will establish two advanced manufacturing facilities in Will County, Illinois.

Headquartered in San Diego, Hyundai Translead produces dry and refrigerated van trailers, domestic containers, container chassis and converter dollies for the North American transportation industry.

The company expects the Illinois project to increase its annual capacity and create approximately 2,500 full-time jobs.

Hyundai Translead stated that the production sites would enable future product line diversification, as well as enhance logistics capabilities and product delivery by reducing landed costs, lead times and leveraging a growing dealer network.

The two sites—one formerly home to Caterpillar’s heavy equipment operations and the other located at the previous Lion Electric operation site—will extend across 52 acres along the Des Plaines River. Both locations offer capacity for future expansion.
