Multiple challenges made continued operation unsustainable.

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) plans to close its Scotland-based Rokbak business, formerly Terex Trucks, which produces off-highway articulated haulers. Volvo Group blamed the closure on rising operational and supply chain costs combined with global trade challenges, which the company said made continued operation "unsustainable."

Volvo Group anticipates production will end in the second half of 2026, subject to the completion of a collective consultation process expected to conclude by the third quarter. The Motherwell facility in Scotland will continue as a hub for designing and manufacturing Volvo rigid haulers.

The Rokbak business reportedly posted about $108 million in "loss-making" revenues last year. Volvo added that the closure would negatively impact its construction equipment segment's operating income by nearly $75 million in the first quarter of 2026. Approximately $43 million refers to non-cash items, with the majority related to "goodwill impairment."

For more than four decades, Rokbak delivered off-highway articulated haulers to customers worldwide. Volvo stated that closing Rokbak enables the company to concentrate resources on advancing and launching other innovative hauling solutions.
