Murata Introduces Soft-Termination Chip MLCC for Automotive Powertrain, Safety Equipment

Murata Manufacturing Co. (Nagaokakyo, Japan) introduced the GCJ21BD72A225KE02 for automotive powertrain and safety equipment. The soft-termination chip multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) is designed for high capacitance and high voltage tolerance in a minimized footprint and can be used in 48V power systems, autonomous driving architectures and advanced driver-assistance systems.

The GCJ21BD72A225KE02 provides a board flexure stress-absorbing capacitive solution for tightly packed automotive electronic control boards using the EIA X7T temperature characteristics standard.

Features:

  • Achieves capacitance of 2.2μF at 100Vdc in 0805-inch (2.0×1.25mm) size
  • Delivers approximate 51% reduction in total board mounting space compared to previous 2.2μF/100Vdc components
  • Specialized soft-termination design that absorbs mechanical strain and vibrations from driving
  • Offers approximate 2.2x increase in overall capacitance density over previous-generation 0805-inch, 100Vdc offerings
  • Supports highly stable, wide operating temperature field ranging from -55°C up to +125°C to handle volatile automotive powertrain environments
